King Jeongjo’s Royal Procession

- Content :The ‘King Jeongjo’s Royal Procession '' will be created to revive the honored journey of King Jeongjo to Hwaseong during the Renaissance era of the Joseon Dynasty. It is an event bound to harness the full significance of the Hi Seoul Festival 2007. A picture of King Jeongjo’s Honored Visit contains the appearance of the parade of King Jeongjo on his way to the royal tomb of his father in Hwaseong, (currently Suwon), Prince Sado. It was an eight-day journey, and incorporated 1,779 people, including civilians, military officers, court ladies, and military escorts. It also involved 779 heads of horse. The original journey was undertaken to commemorate the 61st birth anniversary of the King’s mother, Hegyeonggoong Hong, in 1795. A picture of her is also painted on a 186-long wall around a promenade of Cheonggyecheon, made with ceramic tiling.

The reenactment will include around 930 participants and 120 heads of horse. It will begin at Changdeok Palace at 11:00 am, passing through Boshingak, the Entrance of Mueongdong, Namdaemun, Seoul Station, Yongsan Station, the North End of Hangang Bridge, before concluding upon arrival at Nodeulseom at around 03:00 pm. Thousands of people are expected to join the parade, and, together with a surging crowd expected in the supplementary event, the ‘Citizen''s Hangang Walkathon’ in the Ichon District, as well as the Crossing of the Pontoon Bridge, connecting Ichon District with Nodeulseom, we are anticipating a most spectacular sight of some 200 thousand people in total walking around central Seoul.

The ‘King Jeongjo’s Royal Procession,’ it is hoped, will revive the 300-year-old Renaissance period of Korea, providing opportunities to remind Seoul’s residents of the significance of their culture and traditions, and to give a good impression to the foreigners that join in.

- 상세소개 : 조선중흥기 정조시대 화성행차를 재현하는‘정조 반차도 재현’은 ‘Hi Seoul 페스티벌 2007’의 방향와 컨셉이 가장 잘 드러나있는 프로그램이라고 할 수 있습니다.

정조 반차도는 1795년 정조가 어머니 혜경궁 홍씨의 회갑잔치를 기념하기 위해 아버지 사도세자가 묻힌 화성(현재의 수원)까지 약 8일간 1,779명의 문무백관, 나인, 호위군사들과 779필의 말이 함께 행차하는 모습을 담은 것으로, 현재 청계천변 산책로 벽면에 186m의 길이로 도자 벽화되어 있는 것입니다.

930여명의 참여인원과 120필의 말은 오전 11시에 창덕궁을 출발하여, 보신각–명동입구–남대문–서울역–용산역-한강대교 북단을 거쳐 오후 3시에 노들섬에 도착합니다. 특히 이촌지구에서는 부대행사인 ‘한강 시민걷기대회’의 인파와 정조 반차도 행렬이 합쳐지는 장관이 연출되고, 노들섬에서는 이촌지구 한강둔치와 노들섬 사이에 연결된 300m의 배다리 건너기가 재현되면서, 20만 명의 시민과 관광객이 한자리에 모이는 축제의 최대 볼거리가 될 것으로 기대됩니다.
